A week-long lockdown has been imposed in New Delhi in an attempt to prevent the collapse of India's health system due to rising coronavirus infections.

In the past 24 hours, India recorded more than 250,000 new cases and 1,761 deaths - bringing the country's death total to over 180,000 people.

Health officials believe the true figure could be much higher.
