The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is providing additional guidance after facing criticism for recommending shorter isolation periods, saying people can get a rapid test around the fifth day of isolation but that it would not be a requirement.

The guidance comes as the U.S. reported more than one million cases of COVID-19 in a single day on Monday, setting a global record for number of infections as the Omicron variant continues to surge.

In some parts of the country, the surge is also causing issues for schools. Officials in Chicago cancelled classes altogether after public school teachers voted to return to remote learning. Sean Previl has more on those developments and the latest age group approved for a booster shot.
