Ontario’s associate chief medical officer of health Dr. Barbara Yaffe provided an update Monday discussing the public health agency's ongoing response to the pandemic. The update comes a day before public health officials are expected to release new COVID-19 projections. The modelling data is expected Tuesday, a source in Premier Doug Ford's office confirmed.

Yaffe was asked Monday about a curfew after rumours swirled that Ontario would be headed towards one to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. Yaffe responded by saying that "there isn't very good evidence one way or the other whether curfews work or not." Sources told Global News that a curfew has been taken off the table after the government was initially considering one.

She said that about a third of the population has not been following public health guidelines. When asked what could be done, Yaffe said that "enforcement needs to be increased" as well as "isolation facilities to facilitate people cooperating and complying with public health measures."

Ontario is reporting 3,338 new cases of the coronavirus on Monday, bringing the provincial total to 219,120. Monday’s case count is lower than Sunday’s which saw 3,945 new infections. On Saturday, 3,443 new cases were reported and 4,249 on Friday.
