Toronto Mayor John Tory provided an update on the city's response to COVID-19 on Monday, as the 1st batch of coronavirus vaccines arrived in the province Sunday night.

Tory was joined by Dr. Eileen de Villa, Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health, and Toronto Fire Chief Matthew Pegg.

Speaking to reporters in Toronto, Mayor Tory praised what he called the "good news" that the first COVID-19 vaccinations had begun in the city earlier this morning.

Ontario said it will administer the province’s first COVID-19 vaccination Monday, with Premier Doug Ford’s office stating a health-care worker will receive the first dose at a hospital in Toronto.

The province plans to give the vaccine to approximately 2,500 health-care workers in the first phase of its immunization plan.

Tory also blasted the "appalling" and "flagrant" violations of public health guidelines in the city over the weekend, forcing officers to intervene.
