Boulder, Colo. police officer Eric Talley was remembered as “selfless” and "brave and willing to die to save others," according to Chief Maris Herold during a public memorial on Tuesday.

People gathered along the streets outside Flatirons Community Church in Lafayette to pay tribute to the officer killed in last week's mass shooting at a grocery store in Boulder.

Bagpipes were played during the funeral with Herold telling the family of Talley, who was a father of seven, that their father died a hero and that the department would never forget his or his family's sacrifice.

Talley was the first officer to respond when the shooting occurred at the supermarket, but was among the 10 killed. The suspect in the shooting was arrested and has been charged.
