Police in Pakistan say supporters of a banned political party, Tehreek-e-Labaik (TLP), took six police officers hostage in Lahore on Sunday.
Police had earlier raided their offices, which prompted thousands to take to the streets in violent protests.
Several of the TLP supporters were killed and dozens were injured.
Lahore police said the violence began on Sunday after a police station was attacked.
They accused TLP supporters of taking six officers hostage and torturing some.
Prime Minister Imran Khan said more than 600 officers were injured in protests last week.
There is a media blackout, while social media has been blocked in some areas.

Al Jazeera’s Charlotte Bellis reports.
