Thousands of nurses in England on Wednesday walked out again as a bitter dispute with the government over pay and working conditions continued.

The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) is asking for a 19 per cent pay raise and its members in England will be striking on the 18th and 19th of January. The government says the demands are unaffordable and would cripple other critical services if given.

Wednesday’s strike involved nurses from 55 NHS trusts with thousands of appointments expected to be impacted by the two-day action.

On Monday, RCN said its members in England and Wales would walk out again for 12 hours each on Feb. 6 and 7, if "progress is not made by the end of January" in pay negotiations with the government.
