Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi has said that in his bid to become Prime Minister, he plans to cut running costs by 20% across the board in government to reduce taxes.

The Former Head of the Home Civil Service, Lord Butler, told Sky's Kay Burley that he expects this would lead to civil service redundancies.

He said when he was private secretary to Margaret Thatcher, the civil service was "cut by 100,000" and that "it's not impossible to do that".
