The City of Toronto has ordered the closure of an Etobicoke restaurant that opened its doors to the public for indoor dining despite the province ordering a lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Adam Skelly, the owner of Adamson Barbecue, took to social media on Monday to tell people “enough is enough— we’re opening” and on Tuesday welcomed dozens of people to eat inside, with more lining up to get in.

Hours after Adamson barbecue opened, the City of Toronto issued a statement announcing Toronto Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa ordered the restaurant closed in accordance with Ontario’s Health Protection and Promotion Act.

Toronto Police said they made a "mistake" by not shutting down Adamson Barbecue right away after earlier stating their investigation would take some time, with enforcement coming “later this week.”

Global News’ Kamil Karamali has the details, and why the restaurant owner could be facing further penalties.
