About 20 Chinese navy and Taiwan navy ships continued to stay close to the median line of the Taiwan Strait as of Wednesday morning, a source briefed on the matter told Reuters, with navy ships, fighter jets, as well as refuelling and signal jamming aircrafts being deployed.

The military had already carried out a set of naval and air force drills in areas near Taiwan since August 4, following U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to the island.

It was not immediately clear how long the latest drill will last and where they will occur.

Taiwan’s defence ministry on Wednesday released a video of anti-invasion exercises by its armed forces in response to China’s recent display of military power around the self-ruled island.

The Chinese foreign ministry said on Monday that Taiwan is part of China, and China was conducting normal military exercises "in our own waters" in an open, transparent and professional way.
