China’s ambassador to Canada made bold claims Wednesday about the two Canadians detained in China, Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, and his country’s treatment of Uyghurs.
Cong Peiwu held a virtual press conference on Wednesday with political journalists from several Canadian outlets.
He called reports of genocide and forced labour of Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang the “lie of the century,” despite international bodies like the United Nations deeming such reports “numerous and credible.”
David Akin reports on what the ambassador said and the reaction.
