Chancellor Rishi Sunak told Niall Paterson that the newly introduced windfall tax aims to "incentivise investment."

The "investment allowance" feature in the levy means that energy companies which invest more into the UK, an example being future infrastructure projects, will then pay less tax on their earnings.
