Cannabis could boost tourism in Ontario as recovery remains slow, industry says

The tourism industry is pushing the Ontario government to encourage cannabis tourism as the industry is slow to rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic. A new report suggests the industry won’t fully recover until 2025.

Current laws prevent operators from using cannabis to help sell the destination in advertising. But some researchers suggest cannabis marketing would spur more travel.

The Ontario Chamber of Commerce and tourism industry professionals recommended cannabis tourism in a joint report. Other recommendations included tax incentives and affordable housing to support staff recruitment.
