In past economic recessions, men’s employment took a bigger hit, with women’s job gains leading the recovery – but not this time.
When employment fell off the cliff at the offset of the COVID-19 pandemic, industries dominated by women such as service, travel, tourism and events bled jobs, and many haven’t come back.
Economist Armine Tanizyan is calling this recession a “she-session.”
