Ontario's Hassan Diab, 67, has been ordered by France's highest court to stand trial for a 1980 bombing of a Paris synagogue that killed four people.
Diab, a Ottawa sociology professor, was arrested in 2008 in response to a request by France with him suspected in the bombing. After drawn-out proceedings that went all the way to Canada's Supreme Court, Diab was extradited and spent three years behind bars but in January 2018, French judges dismissed the allegations against him and ordered his immediate release.
David Akin looks at the pressure facing Canada's government to intervene, given Diab's previous stay in French prison and claims he's innocent.
