Canadian bar owners say they’re seeing a growing demand for non-alcoholic drinks and mocktails, a trend that’s born out in data.

Between 2021 and 2022, data from Statistics Canada showed a 1.2 per cent decrease in alcohol sales — the first such decline since 2014. In 2023, the non-alcoholic drinks market brought in $29 billion in revenue.

Non-alcoholic bars have even opened in some provinces.

Global's Katherine Ludwig has more on the trend and how bars and restaurants are adapting.
