Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has visited an Indigenous community in British Columbia, following the discovery in May of more than 200 unmarked graves of Tk’emlups te Secwepemc First Nation children at a residential school.
Trudeau had previously declined an invitation to visit on Truth and Reconciliation Day two weeks ago.
The state-run school was among hundreds of similar institutions where Indigenous children were forcibly separated from their parents, a practice that was carried out for more than 100 years.
