Canada's Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland delivered a federal budget on Tuesday geared towards younger citizens, proposing a spending plan that promises to do everything from make it easier to buy a first home to protecting workers from their workplaces bothering them off hours.

Freeland also detailed changes to how capital gains are taxed. These proposed changes could see roughly 40,000 of the wealthiest Canadians pay a bigger share of their returns annually.

Reacting to the budget in the House of Commons, Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre said that the Conservative Party will vote against the "wasteful, inflationary" fiscal plan. "Like a pyromaniac spraying gas on the inflationary fire that he [Prime Minister Justin Trudeau] lit, it is getting too hot and too expensive for Canadians," Poilievre said.

Following the announcement, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh criticized the party for failing to tackle corporate greed, which he said is the primary reason for the high cost of living in Canada — a hot topic issue for Canadians in the last few years.
