A growing chorus of voices are calling for Toronto’s Ryerson University and other educational institutions that bear that name to be renamed, as the country grapples with the horrifying history of the residential school system.
The university is named after Egerton Ryerson, who was one of the architects of the residential school system in Canada.
Last Thursday, the Tk’emlúps First Nation announced that ground-penetrating radar had discovered the remains of 215 children buried on the site of a former Kamloops, B.C. residential school.
