Calgary Stampede serves as Canada-wide test for major pandemic events

The Calgary Stampede has kicked off, marking the first major event to take place in Canada since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

The threat of COVID-19 isn't over yet and this year's festivities will look different than past years.

Attendees will have to show proof of vaccination to get access to some of the grounds.

It’s being seen as a critical test of Alberta Premier Jason Kenney’s reopening plan.

As Heather Yourex-West explains, some experts are questioning why the event is happening, since only half of the population is double dosed.
