A Calgary MP wants federal funding for the Calgary Stampede to be halted after a partial settlement was reached, alleging the organization allowed a staffer to sexually abuse young boys.

Calgary Skyview MP George Chahal recently posted a statement that said in part "I vehemently advocate to my colleagues in the federal government, that any future support for the Calgary Stampede be halted."

The settlement involves an admission of negligence and breach of duty, but it must still be approved by a judge. The Stampede would pay damages that are to be worked out later this summer.

Philip Heerema is serving a 10-year sentence for luring boys into sexual relationships when he worked for the Stampede’s Young Canadians School of Performing Arts.

Jayme Doll reports.
