Sudan's military leader General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has told Al Jazeera he will not be part of the government after a transitional period.
The military says it is planning to hand back power to civilian leadership in 2023.
Last month, Sudan’s military took power after dissolving the civilian arm of the government, arresting civilian leaders and declaring a state of emergency.
Al Jazeera’s Resul Serdar spoke to General Burhan in Khartoum, Sudan.
