BREAKING: Irish state apologises to mother and baby home victims

Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin has apologised on behalf of the Irish state to the mothers and babies who suffered abuse at so-called mother and baby homes.

Around 9,000 children died in the 18 institutions under investigation between 1922 and 1998.
