The P.1 variant, which was first discovered in Brazil, is raising global concerns about the possibility of reinfection and highlighting the importance of limiting further opportunities for the coronavirus to mutate.

The city of Manaus has been a particularly worrisome case study.
During the first wave, much of the population was infected with coronavirus and the hope was much of the population was immune. But that has proven not to be the case.

As Crystal Goomansingh reports, the situation in Brazil is pushing the health-care system to the brink.
