British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday told the House of Commons that he was “sorry” following the release of the Sue Gray report, which found lockdown parties shouldn’t have been allowed to happen - including at the Prime Minister's residence, 10 Downing Street - and that police are now investigating the matter. Johnson added that “I get it and I will fix it” and “yes, we can be trusted."
Allegations that the prime minister and his staff flouted restrictions imposed on the country to curb the spread of the coronavirus have caused public anger, led some Conservative lawmakers to call for Johnson’s resignation and triggered intense infighting inside the governing party.
Some of Gray’s findings have been cut at the request of police, who have launched a separate investigation into whether several of the almost 20 gatherings she investigated broke COVID-19 laws.
Former British Prime Minister Theresa May said on Monday the public had "a right to expect their Prime Minister to have read the (coronavirus) rules."
