British Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke Thursday at a business forum about the eventual transition to the next leader of the country, saying the "baton is going to be passed seamlessly" to whoever wins the Conservative leadership election.

"I give you this assurance, they will continue with the same program: cutting taxes, simplifying regulation as much as possible, taking advantage of all our new regulatory freedoms," he said.

The leadership race currently is between Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, who led in a poll last week to succeed Johnson, and former chancellor Rishi Sunak.
