A deputy sheriff who was attempting a water rescue in Escambia County, Florida on Friday, got swept away by flood waters and was submerged for 30 seconds, body camera footage shows.

The video from Deputy William Hollingsworth’s body camera shows the dramatic events, including the period he was swept away together with the man who was caught up in the flood waters.

They were sucked into a drainage pipe and were swept underneath the four-lane roadway of Highway 98, according to Hollingsworth.

They were submerged for approximately 30 seconds and travelled nearly 100 feet underwater. The two eventually resurfaced on the other end of the roadway - lucky to be alive.
