Black Canadians are the most overqualified racialized group when it comes to employment, new census data from Statistics Canada shows.

This means a greater number of Black Canadians find themselves in jobs requiring a high school diploma even though they’ve earned a bachelor's degree or higher at a post-secondary institution

The overqualification rate for Black Canadians was 16 per cent, compared to 11 per cent for Canadians on average. It didn’t matter whether it was a recent immigrant or a settled Canadian, the rate of over-qualification was the same.

As Kyle Benning explains, experts say a societal shift is needed for Black graduates to reach their full potential.
