Former actor and comedian Bill Cosby returned to his home in Elkins Park, Penn. on Wednesday just hours after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his sexual assault conviction.

Cosby did not speak with reporters but stood alongside his attorneys who argued that the original conviction and subsequent sentence was "unjust," but said he had served it with "dignity." Attorney Jennifer Bonjean also said they believed the case was "over" because the high court "vacated the conviction."

In its ruling the state supreme court said a "non-prosecution agreement" with a previous prosecutor prevented Cosby from facing charges. With the ruling, the judges wrote that "Cosby's convictions and judgment of sentence are vacated, and he is discharged." In 2005, Bruce Castor, the top prosecutor in Montgomery County, found it would be difficult to prosecute Cosby without any "corroborating forensic evidence" and because testimony from other accusers would be inadmissible, the court wrote. Due to this, the court said the "subsequent decision" by successor district attorneys to prosecute Cosby "violated Cosby's due process rights."
