The United States has been marking the anniversary of a mob of rioters breaching the US Capitol, following former President Trump's election defeat.
Both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris addressed the nation, strongly condemning the events of a year ago. Biden directly blamed Donald Trump for what he called an "armed insurrection".
The former president, too, was scheduled to hold a news conference, but cancelled it after being told it would look bad.
Al Jazeera's Alan Fisher reports from Washington.
