Amid extreme heat across the U.S., President Joe Biden ordered a heat hazard alert across the nation to remind workers across the U.S. that they have federal heat-related protections. For states that do not “protect these workers,” the Democratic leader said he would “be calling them out.”

Additionally, Biden encouraged families and those without air conditioning access to go to public places that have them, to check on their family members, friends and neighbours and to always carry a bottle of water with them.

Furthermore, Biden announced that he would be awarding the U.S. Forest Service with more than US$1 billion in grants to help cities plant trees to repel the heat.

Nearly half of the U.S. population (approximately 180 million) is facing temperatures and heat index values above 37 degrees Celsius, and will continue to do so until, at least, Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
