Biden "confident" US will exceed goal of 100 million vaccines given in first 100 days in office

U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday took a tour of the Pfizer vaccine manufacturing plant in Portage, Michigan where he also gave an update on the nations COVID-19 vaccine rollout plan.

The president said he is confident the United States will exceed his goal of delivering 100 million vaccine doses in the first 100 days of his term in office. "We're on the path to do that. We're averaging 1.7 million a day. Soon we'll be at 50 million. And I'm confident we'll exceed the number, Biden said."

With only about 15 per cent of the U.S. population vaccinated against the coronavirus so far, Biden urged Americans to be confident in the vaccine's safety and to get the shots when they can. "The vaccines are safe please take the vaccine for yourself, your family, your community, this country when it's your turn and available."

Biden also implored citizens to follow his mask mandate, an executive order he signed a few weeks back requiring people to wear masks on federal property and on all mass transportation. "You're making a difference" Biden said adding that's it's your "patriotic duty."
