In the US, the Biden administration this week began a $6bn effort to rescue and revamp aging nuclear plants that might otherwise close.
It is part of Biden’s effort to use more carbon-free energy and wean the US off fossil fuels.
The announcement comes as the war in Ukraine and sanctions against Russia have driven up energy prices worldwide, hitting gas prices in the US especially hard.
