Berlin's LGBTQ+ Christopher Street Day parade kicked off on Saturday, with more than 90 colourful floats glide through the city for more than five hours, with tens of thousands of supporters marching with them.

People who attended said that events like this were needed because discrimination is still happening.

"We just need to go to our neighbouring country Poland where there are still LGBTQ-free zones and we are demonstrating against that, of course," said Sister Daphne, who attended the parade.

The parade marked Christopher Street Day, which commemorates the riots that broke out in New York City in 1969 after police raided a gay bar — an event some consider as a turning point for the gay rights movement. It has been celebrated in Germany since 1979.
