India's Supreme Court declined the legalize same-sex marriage and left it up to parliament to decide, agreeing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government that the legislature is the right forum to rule on the contentious issue.

While the news came as a disappointment to many in the LGBTQ community, some were hopeful, focusing on the positive things that came out of the judgement.

"All the rights that straight live-in couples had…heterosexual couples had, we will now get (those) the rights, including most of all adoption rights are there, inheritance rights have been given to us, gratuity rights are there, a joint bank account can be opened.
