Medical assistance in dying (MAiD) is one of the fiercest legal debates underway in Canada right now.

An expansion of Canada’s medically assisted dying regime that would include patients whose sole underlying condition is a mental disorder was slated to begin this month. But under pressure from psychiatrists, patient advocates, and families, the federal government delayed the update for at least another year.

Now one British Columbia man is speaking out after his father received a medically assisted death that he says should never have been approved.
“You should be able to have a very clear understanding of what rational or reasons were used to justify that – and we do not have those,” Christopher Lyon says.

Touria Izri reports on Lyon’s push for answers about his father’s case.
