BC floods: Officials outline restrictions on travel, gas amid ongoing state of emergency | FULL

British Columbia’s Deputy Premier Mike Farnworth, along with other B.C. officials, outlined the restrictions put in place on travel and gas after catastrophic flooding that led to a state of emergency in the province.

As of Friday, an estimated 17,000 British Columbians remained on evacuation orders related to the devastating floods and landslides that swept through southwestern B.C., following an atmospheric river last week.

Highway 3 between Agassiz and Princeton, is restricted to only passenger vehicles smaller than a “cube van,” officials said. Highway 99 is also restricted to only essential travel after a mudslide on a section of the highway between Pemberton and Lillooet swept between five and seven vehicles off the road.

The death toll has risen to four in the wake of the deadly slide, with one person still missing.

Farnworth also said Saturday that British Columbians’ gas consumption was being limited to 30 litres per visit for 10 days, to ensure enough gas for emergency vehicles.
