Residents woke up on Thursday morning to find the streets of Lindenberg im Allgau in the south of Germany covered in one metre (three feet) of snow.
Metrologists predicted snow but no one expected the extent of the snowfall. This caused traffic chaos as some cars got stuck in the snow.
Emergency services were deployed to clear the snow away and keep the traffic going in the Bavarian town.
