Toronto Blue Jays President Mark Shapiro stated that "Ross (Atkins) will be back as GM," during his season-ending press conference on Thursday.
Shapiro was speaking to the media for the first time since the Blue Jays season ended in disappointing fashion after the team was eliminated in a two-game sweep by the Minnesota Twins.
Speaking about the controversial decision to remove starting pitcher Jose Berrios in Game 2 of the Twins series, Shapiro said he "knew the game plan," but added that he "didn't know when it would happen, so I found out at the same moment in time when (manager) John (Schneider) walked to the mound."
"There is a clear line of demarcation when it comes to in-game decision-making," Shapiro said.
When asked if he thought it was a mistake to remove Berrios at that time in the game, Shapiro said "I actually don't. It didn't work as perfectly as it could have."
