A massive earthquake has hit Taiwan, causing damage and knocking out power to tens of thousands. The strongest earthquake in 25 years was centered near the city of Hualien on Taiwan's eastern coast. Four people have been killed and more than 50 injured -- the National Fire Agency say many people are trapped after dozens of buildings and tunnels collapsed. The powerful quake initially prompted tsunami warnings for Japan and the Philippines, which have now been lifted. Strong aftershocks followed and officials warned of more tremors in the days ahead. Update from DW East Asia Correspondent James Chater.
