Russia unleashed one of its largest missile attacks on Ukraine Friday, killing at least 18 civilians and wounding dozens of others across several Ukrainian regions.

Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, as well as Dnipro, Lviv, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhia were among the cities hit early in the morning. The latter region is home to a nuclear power plant and remains a focus of the ongoing war.

In 2022, millions of Ukrainians were left in darkness after Russia pummeled the country’s power grid, something government officials have been warning — for weeks — could happen again after Russia’s military started stockpiling missiles during Ukraine’s counteroffensive.

Despite facing dozens of deaths and major infrastructure damage, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelesnkyy said most of the fired missiles were shot down on Friday.
