NATO-Russia talks have kicked off in Brussels, as tensions are rising on the Ukrainian border. The meeting is due to run for about three hours and comes during a week of high-level diplomacy.
Initial talks between US and Russian officials on Monday ended in deadlock. Russia is pushing for written guarantees that there will be no more NATO expansion towards the East and that Ukraine will never join the Western military alliance.
Russia's defiant stance going into talks with NATO has a long and painful history, as DW's Emily Sherwin reports.
