It’s 20 years since US forces first launched airstrikes against Al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan, in response to the attacks of 9/11.

For military families of coalition troops who lost relatives in the conflict, it will be a poignant and difficult moment.

More than 3,500 people serving with coalition forces in Afghanistan were killed in the conflict.

Among them was Private Conrad Lewis, a British soldier who was killed in Helmand province in 2011. His family is one among thousands who have watched as forces withdraw from the Afghanistan conflict.

Huw Edwards presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Fergal Keane.
