As Russian shelling continues to hit key energy infrastructure, a Christmas tree powered by generators lit up in Ukraine's capital city, Kyiv.

People gathered in Sophia Square on Monday night for the tree lighting. Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said Russia would not take away the holiday.

“We called it symbolically our Christmas tree of invincibility, because we want to show that we Ukrainians can't be broken, despite the big challenges that we face today," Klitschko said.

Dec. 24 marks 10 months since the Russians invaded Ukraine.
