Alan Bates joked that Post Office CEO Nick Read "should've brought his chequebook" to the Horizon Public Inquiry.

Mr Bates had finished giving evidence to the Inquiry, where earlier his termination letter was revealed - and the decision to sack him described as "the only sensible option" by the then general manager of the Post Office's communications network, Richard Barker.
