Airlines struggle to keep up with passenger volumes

It’s called revenge travel. After months of COVID-19 travel restrictions Canadians are flying to see family and friends or to take long overdue vacation time. But staffing at major carriers has not kept pace.

Angry travelers are sharing stories of delayed and cancelled flights and what they say is insufficient customer service.

Aviation experts believe staffing shortages are calculated. Airlines just didn’t hire enough staff during the summer anticipating a fall slow down as people returned to work and school. Business travel volume isn’t expected to be enough to make up the difference.
