Hundreds of flights and package holidays have been cancelled and many flights have been delayed across the UK, with the travel industry blaming a staff shortage due to a lack of government help during the pandemic.

The deputy general secretary of The Prospect union, which represents thousands of staff across air traffic control, said “things could get worse this summer before they get better.”

German holiday giant TUI has already cancelled 200 flights between now and 30 June, which has disappointed many people hoping to get away for the half-term and Platinum Jubilee weekend.
