Rescuers are trying to reach survivors after more than a thousand people were killed in an earthquake in Afghanistan.

People are digging by hand through rubble to search for people alive, in areas already dealing with devastating poverty, hunger and a crumbling health system.

The earthquake hit after 10pm on Tuesday in the Paktika region of the country near the border with Pakistan.

Sky's Inzamam Rashid reports from Islamabad.
