The Nova Scotia government is tabling legislation demanding that telecommunication companies maintain service during emergencies — such as last month's devastating hurricane Fiona.
Many local residents discovered during Fiona's vicious sweep through the province that they had no cellular service — leaving them unable to call 911.
The province's PC government is imposing new regulations on phone providers, to ensure such a failure doesn't happen again.
The government says that if telecoms don't comply, they could be hit with daily fines of up to $250,000. Ross Lord has more.
