Environmentalists in Pakistan are warning that a $50bn real estate project planned by the government to develop two islands in the Arabian Sea could lead to an environmental disaster.
The islands, near Karachi, are known for their mangrove forests, which provide natural cover from storms and pollution.
Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government says the project will create thousands of jobs and ease pressure on Karachi, a megacity, home to 20 million people.
Al Jazeera’s Priyanka Gupta reports.
